In society, calling out the name “vagina” is not accepted by so many people as if it does not exist. Because of that, there are lot of myths associated with vaginal health and people believe that those are the actual facts and act on it. Let’s burst some of the myths which are believed by so many people
Pubic Hair is not Unhygienic or Dirty
Pubic hair is sign of maturity and removing or keeping them has nothing to do with hygiene or cleanliness. In fact, it protects vagina from getting infected from lot of bacteria and also keeps woman away from STDs and yeasts infections. There are lot of ways where women can get rid of pubic hair but it’s really up to the woman, whether she wants to remove the hair or not.
Vagina will not become loose because of sex or any insertions
Vaginal muscles are highly elastic, and it gains its original form after any penetrations or any insertions. Calling “loose vagina, loose women” is just another way of slut shaming and is not related to any scientific facts. Sometimes there can be changes due to ageing, child birth, and hormones but still it gains the original form and kegel exercises can be helpful.
Hymen does not actually reveal any details about Woman’s Virginity
Bleeding while sex or penetration maybe not because of breaking of hymen, there are lot of other reasons due to which bleeding takes place. Other than sex, hymen could get torn due to various exercises etc. Hence hymen or breaking of hymen is not test to check the virginity of the woman. More than that, being virgin or losing virginity is her choice.
Vaginal Discharge and Odour Associated with it is normal
Vaginal discharge are different at different stages of menstrual cycle and is normal to a girl to a have it. But different colours can be symptoms of some infections, consulting doctor is advised.
Cleaning Vagina with Soaps and Chemical Washes is not required
Vagina has acidic pH and is self-cleaning. Using soaps and washes can cause imbalance in pH and there will be chances of getting STDs or yeast infections and bacterial infections. Instead, one can use just water and chemical-free soaps to clean vagina. “Vaginal douching” can cause serious problems.
