Porn Stars are like Other Professionals

“Mia Khalifa, a famous porn star received death threats after being ranked the site’s top adult actress.”

The pornography industry is one of the industries which makes a huge profit. It generates around 12 billion dollars in annual revenue. The purpose of porn is to entertain and arouse its viewers. Like any other industry, the sole objective is to make a profit. It has got a huge audience and most of them are youngsters. Demand for porns is rising and many are attracted to this industry. Although some criticisms are there against this industry, it has got workers, it pays them and generates enormous profit all because it’s in demand.

Teens are considering pornography as a career choice. This industry pays them fair money in a relatively shorter period and as any other workers in any other industries, they enjoy the work they do. Apart from the money, they endure endless criticisms. They are deemed as sex workers, characterless, people finds it alright to confront them in public and some think their whole life is nothing but sex.

The actors in the pornographic industry are doing their job. A job is what someone does and not who they are. The things one does in a job doesn’t define someone as a person. It is the ‘character’ that defines a person.

In films, people act and as an audience, we never judged them for the character they played. The character is born from the imagination of the story writer and director. Actors are doing what they are asked to. In a porn movie, it’s not just two people doing sex. Scenes are taken in different shots. There is a writer, director, producer, wardrobe, lighting, set design, camera operator, sexual health liaison, set security etc. involved in filming a porn movie. Actors are also one among those people. The audience only gets to see the actors who portray different characters and the edited version of the movie. Porn is not a reality. And it is pathetic to define the actors entailed in porn as the characters they played on the screen.

A person should be defined by their character, truth, values, potential, and qualities. Jobs are temporary and they can change at any moment. The porn industry does not provide lifelong employment and remuneration. It mainly focuses on youngsters. This industry demands a well-maintained body and continuous STD checkups. So after some time, actors might leave the industry. As every employee, they put work away when they leave the workplace. At the very end of the day, a job is nothing but a paycheck and it can’t define anyone. It’s important to value their privacy.

Porn actors are facing a lot of death threats and the media are indulging in their private life. They are labelled as damaged goods. They are vulnerable to harassment. They are being judged based on their shape, weight, dress, haircut, partners, religion etc.

The director will call cut and I will baby wipe my cheek off and we will go back to talking about his wife and what colours they picked out for their new house. Shower, hugs. I go home to my family, he goes home to his. That’s normal.

Dani Daniels, one of the famous porn actresses and directors once said

They are just like other actors. Their lives are also very normal.

Mia Khalifa, a popular pornstar, donated $20,000 to the Lebanese Red Cross. She is also a humanitarian, a Lebanese-American activist and has donated a lot for the welfare of her country. She even extended her support to the farmers’ protest in India.

Sunny Leone, another famous porn actress, also disclosed she used to get death threats and gets a lot of badly written messages daily. She is also a humanitarian. She is also a proponent of animal rights. She funds a school in Mumbai. She has made numerous charities for cancer. She extended her support to Kerala during the flood. She has received many awards as an activist.

These are just a few examples of people in the porn industry being better humans. They are helping and caring for other human beings regardless of gender, race, religion. Even if they don’t, still they deserve respect. They deserve to be treated better. Objections or criticisms towards the industry cannot be thrown to its workers. Actors are doing their job. It’s not appreciated to judge others. But when we do, let’s judge people for their character and their personality and not their jobs.
