Sex Education for LGBTQ Because “Everyone has bodies, right?

What is SEX EDUCATION?

The World Health Organization defines Sex Education as a “ broad program that aims to build a strong foundation for a lifelong foundation for lifelong sexual health by acquiring information and attitudes, beliefs and values about one’s identity, relationships and intimacy.”

It can also be defined as a program that gives knowledge about sexuality, contraception and comprises topics like gender identity, consent and awareness about sexual abuse as well. It aims to increase awareness about sexual health.

SEX EDUCATION FOR LGBTQ

Sex education standards vary widely across countries leaving about basic anatomy, healthy relationship skills, and safer sex practices. On this top LGBTQ faces a lot of challenges.

Sex Education generally contains content relatable to heterosexuals and non-transgender, many sex-ed curricula do not mention sexual orientation or gender identity, that itself is questioning and it also prevents LGBTQ to have knowledge and awareness about sexual health and its importance.

LGBTQ are already prone to bullying and not aware students about gender identity creates a lot of obstacles for LGBTQ, they should have the right to be included in the curriculum so that they can be safe and healthy.

Too many LGBTQ youths sit in a classroom where teachers and textbooks fail to appropriately address their identities, and this is potentially more damaging than sex education. The Sex Education program must be LGBTQ inclusive programs are those that help youth understand gender identity and sexual orientation with age-appropriate and medically accurate information; incorporate positive examples of LGBTQ individuals, romantic relationships and families; emphasize the need for protection during sex for people of all identities, and dispel common myths and stereotypes about behavior and identity.

LGBTQ youth faces a lot of problems while growing up whether it be bullying or be identifying themselves, many find out about their sexuality very late because of the lack of awareness, and Safe Sex is something desired by most of the people but when a person who is still learning about their sexuality is lacking the knowledge about things like sex education, it puts their health at risks.

People, especially in India, are already hesitant about talking on Sex Education and LGBTQ, then delay in inclusion of LGBTQ in sex education will only create chaos, People need to understand the importance of sex education and the importance of gender identity and this should be done with a compulsory subject at the school level that teaches the student that being LGBTQ is normal, there is nothing wrong with it and what are the things that should be kept in mind while having sex for their well-being.

The research also showed that LGBTQ youth have a limited number of trusted adults they feel comfortable talking with about sexual health, so they frequently seek information online or from peers. Much of the sexual health information online is neither age-appropriate nor medically accurate, and peers may be misinformed.

Sex education ought to help close this gap. Advocates of LGBT sex education say that the inclusion of LGBT issues into sex education programs would reduce homophobic bullying, improve the health of LGBT people, and decrease instances of problems common in LGBT students such as depression and low self-esteem.
